KOA 1000 Islands/Ivy Lea, ON.
Click here to see the official KOA website. Situated in the 1000 Islands region and on the Ontario bank of the St Lawrence River, this campground is nicely situated to explore both Ontario and Upstate New York, as well as the Canadian Capital City of Ottawa, an hour to the north.

General Stuff

The campground is small and cosy but delightfully laid out, not in the usual rows but around what seem to be a series of winding, random little roads. The sites are mostly bounded by some small shrubs and trees with gives some privacy, and whilst the crushed stone pads are not always perfectly level, each site is fully equipped and quite tidy. There are the usual KOA amenities, including a very busy pair of pools, and the store was stocked, especially important  given that the nearest stores and restaurants are in Gananoque, some 20 minutes west of the campground.

Opinion

The campground had a lovely quaint feel to it, especially as we visited straight from the straight lines of the KOA in Quebec City. It was busy but I didn't feel crowded in and I loved the open grass area behind us as it gave a feeling of space. The pool was always busy but that wasn't an issue because we used this campground as a base to explore the area and to visit Ottawa. The kids really liked this campground and I think that we'll visit again. We also loved the town of Gananoque, and spent much of our time there eating in the restaurants or sitting by the river.
