![]() So, it's 2016 and time to dust off the blog again, even though it's still winter here and still cold. I noticed when looking back over last year that I'd missed documenting one trip, local to Rondeau Park in October my log says. It's too late now to write anything of significance, especially as Rondeau is our most visited venue for weekend camping. Never mind. So what does 2016 have in store for us? Sadly not as much camping as we'd hoped for as there's a big trip to Europe in the pipeline. We do have the Victoria Day weekend booked, traveling to the Provincial Park at Inverhuron, Ontario. That park is outside of our two hour weekend drive limit but, as is usual, unless you book really early, you can never get the parks you want for the holiday weekends. I'm simply not organised enough to be on the phone, or computer, at the right time. Still, Inverhuron is nice and I'm sure it'll be a great trip. Before we travel, though, I have to get my friends at CanAm RV to have a look at my hitch receiver. With five years of use, and five Canadian winters to deal with, the receiver box has become a little deformed as a result of the upward torque that the weight distribution system exerts on the hitch head. That in turn affects the ability of the set up to distribute weight effectively and raises the prospect of a failure whilst in use. The receiver is working very hard but it clearly isn't up to the loads we're applying, so either a repair or replacement is in order. I'm thinking replacement, even though the CanAm people are going to have to modify any new receiver, because the whole assembly has suffered very badly with rust. I know that people take their receivers off in the winter, which keeps them away from the road salt and gives an opportunity to de-rust and re-paint. I haven't done that so I now have a dodgy receiver. That said, it's actually a relatively inexpensive item compared to the Airstream so I shouldn't really worry too much. I've also just seen an new type of Eaz-Lift weight distribution system so I may enquire about a complete WD and receiver set up. It's still five weeks before we get Towed Haul out of storage but it is good to be back in blog writing mode.
